About DPD Recruiting

Being a police officer with the Decatur Police Department is challenging and rewarding. Working in a town of approximately 60,000, our officers have two distinct advantages. Officers are able to get to know the people in the communities they serve; the ratio of officers to civilians is about 1 to 454. With approximately 130 officers and more than 10 specialty areas, the Decatur Police Department is a great size to provide officers with excellent opportunities for growth and career advancement.

Our philosophy is to make Decatur a safe place to live and as a result, Decatur’s crime rate is remarkably low. Our officers work hard to develop relationships in the neighborhoods and schools so that we can prevent crimes before they happen. Our officers individually are involved in many ways throughout the community. In addition, the department participates in statewide sponsorship programs for the Special Olympics, including the COPS on Top fund-raising event and Torch Run.

The Decatur PD believes strongly in using technological advancements for better and safer policing. The Chief and his team continually evaluate and implement programs, tools, and training that make our officers more efficient and keep both citizens and officers safer.
